Bexley Bexley, Kent, UK - (04/02/1997) At 1018 on 4 February 1997 a train comprising two diesel locomotives and 19 wagons containing ballast left Three Bridges in West Sussex bound for Hoo Junction near Gillingham, Kent. Its route took it over a brick viaduct through the centre of Bexley. As the train approached the viaduct, the six rear wagons became derailed and crashed through the parapet of the bridge, the arches of which were in use as workshops. It was feared that there may have been a number of people buried under the rubble. Emergency services used thermal imaging cameras in their search for possible survivors.
